Abstract

Cloud-free and cloud-modified UV index data for an area covering The Netherlands for each quarter of an hour from 03:00 UTC up to and including 21:45 UTC, both in the usual non-dimensional unit, and given with 3 decimals. The UV index makes use of total ozone column data as well as the surface height and the amount of aerosols in the atmosphere.

Purpose The UV index is an important piece of information for warning the public about the risk of sunburn. KNMI produces such data based on satellite observations of the thickness of the ozone layer and cloudiness. Dutch RIVM (National Institute for Public Health and the Environment) has asked to make that data public so that they can use it for their warnings and to build a service on that data.
