Introduction

The KNMI publishes pre-controlled 24-hour precipitation data from weather stations in the KNMI climatological precipitation network. This dataset provides the 24-hour (08-08 UTC) precipitation amount, including measurements of rainfall and snow cover depth, collected from a network of voluntary observers.

How to use this dataset

The columns in this dataset are respectively: Station-Id, Name, X, Y, date/time, RD (rain), S (snow).

With additional explanation for columns X, Y, RD and S:

X, Y: These are coordinates from the Rijksdriehoekscoordinaten coordinate system. The exact location has been masked by reducing precision. In order to get a valid coordinate, the value from the column should be multiplied with 1000.

RD (rain):

[empty]: measurement lost
0: no rain
1 - 9998: rain in 0.1 mm
9999: dummy (not in use anymore)

S (snow):

0: no snow
1 - 996: snow depth in cm
997: snow depth less than 1 cm
998: discontinuous snow cover
999: piled snow
