| Lineage statement | Volumetric data from radars in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands are fed to the bioRad opensource tool. This tool uses several radar variables to estimate a vertical profile of birds. This vertical profile is then applied to all reflectivity data within a distance of 80 km to the radar, to create an estimate of vertically integrated bird density. Note that, since this is applied to all reflectivity data, also precipitation and other sources of reflectivity will be converted to bird density values. Typically it is assumed that BIRDTAM values of 9 or higher are due to precipitation or other sources and not ornithological. |
