Abstract

This dataset contains digital copies of the paper-based weather station metadata archive of KNMI. The archive includes all available metadata from both active and decommissioned KNMI observation stations. Since January 1, 2004, new metadata has been recorded digitally in the Station Administration and Information System (SAIS). As a result, the physical (hardcopy) archive is no longer being updated. The information in the archive is particularly important for assessing and improving the quality of climate series. From around 1950 onward, the amount of available metadata increases significantly. For some climate series, relevant metadata has been extracted from the archive and made available via the KNMI website or other platforms. Due to the presence of personal information, the archive is not publicly accessible. The original paper archive is stored in the Central Registration Archive for Observations (CRAW), located in the basement of the KNMI building in De Bilt. The scans were made during project SCARCH.
